The Independence Day

Lithuania has an opportunity to celebrate the Day of Independence twice a year. Quite unusual- right? The first independence was declared from Czarist Russia on February 16, 1918. The country remained independent till 1940, when the Soviet Union annexed it. After remaining under Soviet Union for almost 50 years, independence was restored in 1990 on the 11 th of March.

The Independence Day is always leaded by big celebrations. All the major cities organize festivities, public speeches, and parades. There are held lots of state-sponsored events. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, hosts the major events. The cathedral Square also organizes concerts, which are free for the public.

So don’t loose an opportunity to wave with Lithuanian flag on a main square listening to the music of Army Orchestra.
